Scalstrm Wraps Up 2025: A Year of Growth, Innovation, and More Than 4 Billion Viewing Sessions Delivered

As 2025 comes to a close, the Scalstrm team is taking a moment to reflect on a year defined by progress, new partnerships, breakthrough deployments, and a shared commitment to building a more efficient streaming ecosystem. What began as a year of ambitious goals has ended with a landmark achievement: Scalstrm powered more than 4 billion viewing sessions across its global operator footprint, including leading service providers such as Telia, Tele2, Elisa, Play Media and Ziggo Sport, a testament to the trust placed in the platform and the hard work of the entire team.

A Year of Momentum

Throughout 2025, Scalstrm strengthened the core pillars of its technology, Origin, Packaging, event-based transcoding, and infrastructure elasticity. Whether supporting operators shifting to FAST strategies, modernizing legacy systems, or streamlining cost-heavy workflows, the team continued to focus on what Scalstrm does best: building smarter, more efficient, and more scalable streaming infrastructure.

This year, Scalstrm introduced several enhancements across the product line, deepening reliability, accelerating real-time workflows, and ensuring operators could deliver premium video experiences without overprovisioning or operational friction.

Team Growth and Strengthened Capabilities

2025 was also a year of expansion on the people side. New team members joined engineering, product, and commercial functions, each bringing skills that strengthened Scalstrm’s ability to support operators at scale.

The appointment of Pontus Eklöf as Sales Director marked a strategic step in the company’s growth journey, expanding its reach and reinforcing its commitment to customer success in both existing and new markets.

Partnerships That Moved the Industry Forward

Across the year, Scalstrm deepened collaboration with global technology partners. Key integrations, including continued work with Akamai and NETINT, and the addition of new operator deployments, demonstrated how Scalstrm’s modular, cloud-native architecture fits seamlessly into diverse ecosystems.

“The holy grail for video processing and encoding has always been edge-located encoders able to change their configuration dynamically to meet the needs of each device. With Scalstrm, NETINT VPUs can perform JIT transcoding on the Akamai Connected Cloud, besting OPEX of popular public clouds by as much as 10x.” – Randal Horne, CRO at NETINT Technologies

One notable highlight: Backscreen selecting Scalstrm’s Origin for its video processing and OTT backend, a strong validation of reliability and efficiency in real-world workflows.

“Our customers request low latency for premium user experience and Dynamic Ad Insertion for premium monetization. We shall meet this demand in a scalable manner for our growing portfolio of projects with Scalstrm. As our video delivery services are based on best of breed solutions.” – Norberts Ositis, CEO, Backscreen

These partnerships reinforced an important lesson from 2025: operators are increasingly seeking smart, elastic, event-driven infrastructure, and Scalstrm is becoming a key piece of that transformation.

“Partnering with Scalstrm means embracing a bold future, one where efficiency meets innovation to drive sustainable progress and redefine what’s possible in the world of streaming.” – Sander de Vries , Head of Media Services, Triple | Part of Hypersolid

A Record-Breaking Year: Over 4 Billion Viewing Sessions

Perhaps the most defining milestone of the year: Scalstrm solutions powered over 4 billion viewing sessions in 2025.

From live sports to VOD libraries, FAST channels to catch-up TV, the platform delivered high-performance experiences across millions of devices, from new Smart TVs to legacy models still relying on older packaging formats.

“2025 showed us that the future of streaming isn’t defined by size, it’s defined by efficiency. Surpassing 4 billion viewing sessions is proof that operators are ready for smarter infrastructure, and our team is delivering exactly that. The momentum we’ve built this year sets the foundation for an even stronger 2026.” – Patrik Alm, Co-Founder & CEO, Scalstrm

This number isn’t just about volume. It reflects:

  • operators modernizing their workflows
  • viewers experiencing smoother streams
  • broadcasters adopting more efficient infrastructure
  • the industry shifting toward smarter, less wasteful scaling strategies

To the Scalstrm team, the 4-billion milestone is proof of one thing: efficiency and performance win.

“This year made one thing very clear: the real bottleneck in streaming is inefficiency. From ad-supported workflows to live event peaks, we focused on making everything event-driven, elastic, and real-time. Looking ahead to 2026, we’ll continue pushing the boundaries of what efficient video delivery can achieve.” – Ola Bengtsson, Co-Founder & CTO

Looking Ahead to 2026

The industry is shifting rapidly, from FAST monetization and ad-workflow modernization to the rise of real-time, event-based processing. Scalstrm enters 2026 focused on helping operators:

  • unlock better cost structures
  • handle massive peaks without unnecessary infrastructure
  • modernize legacy workflows
  • deliver cleaner, more flexible ad-supported experiences
  • expand their streaming platforms without complexity

If 2025 was the year Scalstrm reached new scale, 2026 will be the year streaming becomes more intelligent, and Scalstrm is ready for it.
